The Florida Division of Forestry tells 10 Connects 31,655 acres have burned across Florida so far this year. That’s three times the acreage than the same time last year. It’s a number that will continue to grow as dry weather conditions persist statewide. If you haven’t prepared your property, firefighters say now is the time to do so.
DOF estimates one-third of all Floridians live in what’s called a wildlife/urban interface area, essentially meaning they live right next to a wooded area. While beautiful, it could put those homes right in the line of fire during the dry conditions we’re facing now.
